Boristene is a cultural association founded in Milan two years ago with the mission of promoting Ukrainian culture and history in Italy and across Europe.
For centuries, Ukraine was mistakenly seen as merely a part of Russia, while in reality, it has always been a distinct cultural and historical entity. Only now, amid war, is the world beginning to recognize Ukraine’s true role in shaping Eastern European civilization.

BORISTENE takes its name from the ancient Greek term Borysthenes, used to describe the great Dnipro River, a historic waterway of Eastern Europe. It is both a geographical and cultural symbol, representing a landscape inhabited, traversed, and celebrated since antiquity.
Our mission is to engage with the Italian public, countering years of distorted information from Kremlin propaganda, and to showcase the real Ukraine, its values, and its cultural richness.
When the full-scale Russian invasion began, we were the first to organize an exclusive interview with President Zelenskyy on RAI Uno, Italy’s most-watched TV program. This helped Italians better understand Ukraine and challenge Russian propaganda.
We later served as producers for the Porta a Porta team’s visit to Kyiv, coordinating their work and accompanying journalists to Bucha and Irpin, allowing them to witness first-hand the consequences of the war.
Since then, Boristene has organized the Ukraine is Ukraine festival, as well as lectures, presentations, and other cultural events.
We continue to work on projects dedicated to Ukraine.
By sharing Ukrainian creativity and ideas,
we foster collaboration, understanding, and a vision of a future where Ukraine, as an integral part of Europe, works alongside partners to safeguard common values.
